Havant travelled to Colchester their latest Nat 2 East fixture, the squad showing how much depth there is with debuts for Tom Gwyther at fly-half and Jacob Ashworth in the backrow.
Havant got off to the perfect start when Jack Phillips galloped down the wing to throw a pass inside to the on rushing Tom Gwyther, who made no mistake. Joel Knight just missed the extra's but Havant had the lead.
From the kick off Colchester applied the pressure and soon found themselves in front, with a well worked pack try.
A Colchester yellow, saw Havant have a period of possession, but struggled to break a stubborn Colchester defence, finally Jacob Knight broke through offloading to brother Joel who run the perfect line to score under the posts, Havant had the lead back with just over thirty minutes gone.
The lead lasted all of a minute or so as again from the restart, Colchester rumbled over the line with Havant looking a little shellshocked.
That was the last of the meaningful action in the half.
Halftime Colchester 14 Havant 12
The arm wrestle continued at the start of the 2nd period, but Colchester had the upper hand and with a penalty and a converted try they found themselves with a healthy 24-12 lead with only ten minutes gone.
Ben Holt scored next for "Hav" his first of the season! Joel Knight converted the after's and Havant were back within five points, but the restart jinx happened again and Colchester profited from poor defensive structure to score their bonus point try and the lead at 31-19.
Colchester were back down to 14 as Havant piled on the pressure in the final fifteen minutes, then a nasty injury to a Colchester player delayed the game further. (we all hope he recovers quickly).
Jerome Rudder finally found space on the other wing to squeeze in the corner, Joel Knight just missing the conversion before going off with a nasty hand injury. (swift recovery).
Havant were not to be outdone and Tam Lindsay finally crossed the whitewash after more pressure from the forwards, Jack Phillips conversion levelling the game in stoppage time. There was time for one last hurray, but the penalty to touch and catch and drive did not materialize, leaving both teams with a draw and three important points.

Will Knight's thoughts after the game
"That was an interesting afternoon. Frustrating to only draw but Colchester were up for it and it was clearly a big club day for the home side. We were not at our best and the incredibly stop / start nature of the game meant there was no flow. The issues with the unopposed scrums and also the long injury break were difficult but I think in the end we managed it pretty well and at least came away with 3 important points."
